Pangong Lake

Pangong Lake

It is a salt water lake which freezes over in winter but throughout summer and autumn, becomes a tapestry of blue. It usually reflects around 7 shades of blue, from violet, purple, cerulean, indigo, royal blue, navy blue, sea-foam green, turquoise and many more. Among the other famous lakes in Ladakh, this one is especially popular both because of its breathtaking beauty and being a delicate border point along the Line of Actual Control. The word pangong is derived from a Tibetan word meaning enchanted. That’s exactly what this lake is all about “enchantic, captivating and charming”. The brilliant blue of this beautiful lake changes to shades of green and grey as the sun approaches his final moments of the day. The calmness and serenity oozing out of Pangong is a stark contrast to the surrounding. This lake runs along the tensed Indo-China border, where there are massive cantonments to counter any breaches from either side. Its almost as if God had made PANGONG a healing, for the diseases man had created in the first place
